Biography:
Dr. Barkley is a Professor of English and the Chair of the Department of Liberal Arts at the Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³». She teaches courses in literature and writing, among them, African American Writers, Meet Me at the Theater, In Their Own Voices: American Autobiography, Letters and Memoirs, Advanced Composition, and Feature Writing. Professor Barkley also teaches several interdisciplinary courses, including The Cincinnati Arts Scene and United Nations Sustainable Development Goal: Global and Local.
Dr. Barkley holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Cincinnati (1998), an M.A. in American Studies from St. Louis University (1976), and a B.A. in English from the College of Âé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³» St. Joseph (1970). She is author of four books--Life After Death: Practical Help for the Widowed, Loving the Everyday: Meditations for Moms, Woman to Woman: Seeing God in Daily Life, and When You Are a Godparent--as well as numerous feature articles.
Professor Barkley was named the 2000 Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching/CASE Ohio Professor of the Year.
Among her passions are the Cincinnati arts scene, ballet (she takes a class every Saturday morning), and her grandchildren.
